With the arrival of Robin over a week ago now, there were temporarily five volunteers here at the African Impact Mara Project. We have gotten to be good friends over the last three weeks, and Robin fit in well and was the initiator of many interesting conversations. ;)
Today Claudia left to go back to Holland, and Joan leaves this coming Thursday to return to Switzerland. Danielle and I head back next Monday, leaving Robin to welcome the newbies. ;) Because we had only one weekend left, we decided we wanted to go have dinner at Encounter Mara, one of the tented camps in the area on Sunday night.
One of the cool parts about Naboisho is the presence of all of these tented camps. There are quite a few in the conservancy. They are similar to the tents we stayed in at Ol Pejeta…luxury in the middle of the African bush. :) In my opinion, one of the most fantastic travel destinations in the world.
We got to live the lifestyle of the rich for a little bit Sunday night. We all dressed up, and drove over to Encounter (stopping along the way to look for leopard, of course). We were seated by a fire to chat and eat popcorn and sausage appetizers before dinner. We ate a cream soup, chicken that practically melted in your mouth, veggies and rice, and cheesecake for dessert. The dinner table was outside, lit by candlelight, and covered with a white tablecloth and some fancy decorations.
It was a very fun experience, and even more fun because we got to share it with friends. :) These are some fantastic ladies!
This is my last week in Africa, my last week in Mara. Can’t wait to see what else the week has in store. :) Hopefully it does not involve the thousands of ants that are crawling outside of Britt’s tent right now…
